The Book
What is the greatest threat to Israel’s existence as a free and democratic Jewish state? In Indivisible, Major General (Ret.) Dr. Yom-Tov Samia, a former commander of the IDF’s Southern Command, argues that it is not Iran, Hamas, Hezbollah or the BDS movement. It is Israel’s own internal fragmentation: a society divided along ethnic, religious and political lines that has not yet learned to act as one. He did not need the horrors of October 7, 2023, or the firestorm of protest over the judicial reform to see the fractures. Decades of command, from the Paratroopers and Givati Brigades to the Gaza Division and the Lebanese front, had already shown them to him.
The book moves in three parts. It begins with Samia’s own story, as the son of Libyan Jewish immigrants, born in a transit camp in the early 1950s, who rose from poverty to the IDF’s highest ranks. It then diagnoses the roots of Jewish self-destruction, from the fall of the Second Temple to the “ticking time bomb” of ten divides in modern Israeli society, and examines the failures of Oslo, the unilateral withdrawals and the over-reliance on defensive technology. It closes with a concrete blueprint: thirteen principles for building a “Model State”, including seven iron principles for any future agreement with the Palestinians.
Why This Book Matters
Indivisible offers something rare: a combat general and scholar of organizational sociology who writes about Israel’s crisis in direct, accessible language. Samia brings an insider’s account of Gaza, Oslo and the strategic turning points of Israel’s recent history, including firsthand experience negotiating the security annexes of the Oslo Accords in Cairo. The result blends memoir, security doctrine and civic philosophy in a single, urgent argument written in the aftermath of October 7.
The book is built on frameworks that give readers new ways to think about Israel. The “Third Temple” metaphor warns that Jewish sovereignty has historically been fragile, and that the modern state is passing through a critical bottleneck. The “Jewish-Zionist-Democratic Compass” rejects the idea that Israel must choose between being Jewish and being democratic. “Levantine Cultural Competence” explains why Western diplomatic assumptions have so often failed in the Middle East. And “Indivisibility”, the book’s central idea, defines unity not as homogeneity but as mutual responsibility, replacing the melting pot with a “growth greenhouse” in which every group keeps its identity and shares the burden.
Unlike works that focus only on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict or on narrow military history, Indivisible does not stop at criticism. It offers a concrete policy blueprint covering the constitution, education, language, economy, energy and environment, security and foreign policy. For readers who want to understand modern Israel, Middle Eastern diplomacy and the price of national disunity, it is an unfiltered view from inside the Israeli psyche.

It gives international readers an unfiltered look into the Israeli psyche and the realities of Middle Eastern diplomacy, and it is written in plain language for a broad readership rather than for specialists. For publishers building lists in geopolitics, international relations and the future of the Middle East, it is a timely and essential acquisition.
